Operational Capability
Programme Overview
The Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), formerly known as Tempest, is a collaborative sixth-generation fighter development between the United Kingdom, Italy, and Japan. The programme represents one of the most ambitious international defence collaborations in history.
GCAP aims to deliver operational capability by 2035, replacing the Eurofighter Typhoon in UK and Italian service, and the F-2 in Japan Air Self-Defense Force service.
Programme Partners
- BAE Systems (United Kingdom) - Programme Lead
- Leonardo (Italy) - Airframe & Systems
- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan) - Airframe & Integration
- Rolls-Royce - Propulsion Systems
- MBDA - Weapons Integration
