Interfaces between the fibre and a polymer matrix promote cracking at different locations. This controlled fragmentation consumes a significant sum of energy. As a result, the cumulative fracture of both matrix and fibre absorb energy that can surpass that of monolithic ductile materials. However, metals consume energy in a crash only by plastic deformation during the crumbling of the material. Deformation mechanism characteristics difference give an advantage to TOPSPOT over conventional composites per unit of weight. Ultimately, TOPSPOT absorbs more of impact energy with less weight.

TOPSPOT Armor Composites

At Belpico, we provide solutions to the ultrahigh temperature and mechanical stress demands with SAGAS. SAGAS have three main components fibrous carbon substrate, a carbonaceous matrix and a coating. Carbon fibres increase the strength and stiffness of the composite material. These fibre incorporated into carbon matrix. There is a protective coating which exhibits spectacular friction performance and strong wear resistance. This coating makes it possible for SAGAS to withstand tremendous temperatures. SAGAS keep room temperature mechanical properties at >2225°C in nonoxidising and 1600°C in oxidising environments. Moreover, mechanical properties of SAGAS can be tailored over a wide range of specifications to fit the application by weaving patterns, and lay-up procedures.

SAGAS Carbon/Carbon Composites

At Belpico, space qualified polymer matrix nanocomposites SIRIS is produced by the automated robotic operation. Automated production ensures the dispersion of the nanoparticles evenly inside the matrix material. Additionally, the nanoparticle–matrix interaction is well controlled from the beginning of the production by functionalization of nanofillers. Thus, modulus and shear strength of polymer matrix have been increased by evenly distributing the nanofibers into the body. Moreover, SIRIS show enhanced gas barrier properties, storage modulus, stress, and elongation at failure properties. Overall, SIRIS can be used for equipment enclosures, aircraft interiors, coatings, cockpit, crew gear, heat shrink tubing, space durable mirrors, housings, shrouds, nozzles, solar array substrates, sizeable low weight outer space structures.

SIRIS Nano Composites

At Belpico, we offer necessary maintenance for the SIRIS, SAGAS, and TOPSPOT. If the damage is cosmetic or a temporary one; first, repair panel is fabricated to be used for the handling. In the meantime, the damage is isolated to the core of the damaged site. Next, surface preparation techniques are applied both to the damage site and repair panel. Later repair doubler and the repair kit are applied to the section. Finally, ultrasounds (C-Scan) testing is used to the bonded joints. If the composite suffers in-service damage, due to fibre breakage or delaminations, structural repairing is applied. Such case damaged fibre and plies substituted with new ones. Damaged part is removed, and patches by using adhesives were applied. Ultrasounds (C-Scan) testing is applied to the bonded joints.

Composite Repair Belpico

At Belpico, we are developing polymer matrix self-healing nanocomposites branded as STATS. STATS are reinforced with microcapsules, which are loaded with active agents. In the event of crack formation, these reservoirs rupture which induces the release of healing agent and movement through the material with capillary effect. Healing agent meets with predisposed catalysts inside composite and the solidification starts. Solidification of healing agent fills the cracked section. STATS is the only space qualified self-healing material with active self-healing microcapsules.

STATS Self-Healing Composites

At Belpico, we are developing smart composites branded as ANONA. ANONA detects damage by cost-effective, and susceptible carbon nanotube strain sensing technology. By measuring the resistivity of the composite, early stage of damage can be identified. Thus, ANONA can thoroughly scan the fatigue damage in the composite and inform the maintenance crew ahead of time.
